“Kravitz still has a knack for finding good wines at great prices” – Robert Parker, Parker on Wine, BusinessWeek, 8/20 & 27, 2007

Vila

The Vila family has been growing grapes in Argentina since colonial times. In an industry dominated by Italians and Basques, this old Castilian family is a minority! The family's vineyards cover well over 1,000 acres, though wines bearing the "Vila" label are produced from select parcels (an impressive 400 acres of their best vineyards) in the Cruz de Piedra section of central Mendoza, near Maipu. Situated on the western edge of the central district, these are some of the very best vineyard sites in the area, and boast some 50+ year old Malbec vines, and some excellent parcels of Cabernet and Bonarda that are not much younger!

Grapes are hand-harvested, and the wines are gently matured to perfection using a combination of oak staves and barrels.

The emphasis here is squarely on value. Tinto Fundación, Vila's flagship blend of Bonarda, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, is truly among the world's best wine values, and perfectly embodies the HPS ethos of QUALITY, CHARACTER & VALUE. The basic Malbec is a textbook example of this signature Argentine varietal, offering plums, violets and minerals with plenty of polish. Vila Bonarda and Barbera Barrica are both distinctive, supple, well-balanced renderings of these historically Italian varietals, while the Malbec Reserva, produced from 30+ year old vines, offers an intensity and concentration that makes it among the top Argentine Malbecs.
